Arthroscopic Latarjet Procedure

Because of the dedication of Dr. Michael S. George, KSF Orthopaedic Center is proud to offer the revolutionary Arthroscopic Latarjet Procedure. Recently developed in France, the procedure is performed for patients with recurrent instability of the shoulder. When the shoulder repeatedly comes out of the socket, trauma occurs as the socket wears away and there is no longer enough bone in the socket to hold the joint. Dr. George is one of few surgeons in the country who has the expertise and experience to perform the procedure, which has many potential advantages over an open procedure.

What are the advantages of an Arthroscopic Latarjet Procedure?

The Latarjet procedure is typically performed through large, open incisions, but by executing the procedure arthroscopically, less trauma occurs in the shoulder. The incisions are much smaller, less muscle is affected, and the recovery time is typically faster than following the open Latarjet procedure.

To describe the unique Arthroscopic Latarjet as performed by Dr. George, a few holes are created in the shoulder, and the coracoid process is transferred to the front of the socket, or the glenoid. There it is fixed with two screws in order to reconstitute the bone stock of the glenoid.

Dr. George has honed this technique to perfection and is confident the relief will come quickly for patients, enabling them to get back to a life without shoulder problems.
