Spine Surgery & General Orthopaedics
Dr. Andrew Kant is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who is the founding partner of
KSF Orthopaedic Center. He decided to pursue a career in orthopaedics after working extensively as a trainer and manager with sports teams in high school and college.
Dr. Kant graduated from
Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill. and received his
medical degree from
Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill. near Chicago, Ill. He completed his residency in
Orthopedic Surgery at the
University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and is a
Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a
past president of the
Houston Orthopedic Society, the
Past President of the
Medical staff of Houston Northwest Medical Center and has served as chairman of the Department of Surgery at the above hospital. He is currently president of the
Texas Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Kant started
KSF Orthopaedic Center in 1976 to bring high quality orthopedic care to the residents of Northwest Houston and the Woodlands areas. He has been in private practice in the same area for 26 years. "I always wanted to be a physician," Dr. Kant says, "I chose orthopedics because you get to work with people of all ages from newborns to seniors. I get to treat the entire body, and sometimes the entire family. I get a chance to watch my patients grow up. It is always rewarding to treat a former patient's son or daughter."
Dr. Kant likes the fact that orthopedic patients generally get well. "We can usually fix what's wrong," he says. "I cannot tell you the number of times a former patient comes up to me in a restaurant or grocery store and says "I can walk without pain or I can play basketball with my daughter". It is very gratifying to know I have had a part in those kind of results.
Orthopedics delivers a high level of satisfaction, and it's an ever changing field. Eighty percent of the things I do today weren't available when I left my training program. For example, when I came into practice, arthroscopy virtually didn't exist. I learned arthroscopic surgery by traveling to other areas of the country when it was just beginning in 1976. We were one of the first orthopedic groups in Houston to use arthroscopy.
Dr. Kant specializes in treating spinal problems and injuries. "We've gone through huge changes in orthopedics in the last twenty years in treatment of the spine. We have better materials and better techniques. A lot of what I can offer patients today didn't exist when I finished training. It's really phenomenal and it continues to change."
Dr. Kant and his wife live in Houston and have three children. In his leisure time, Dr. Kant likes to play golf, fish, ski, and scuba dive.
