Total shoulder replacement is a resurfacing of the ball and socket of the shoulder joint. Hemiarthroplasty is replacement of only the ball side of the shoulder joint. Reverse shoulder arthroplasty is a newer device that is used to replace the shoulder joint in patients with severe shoulder joint degeneration resulting from a chronic non-repairable rotator cuff tear.
