Dr. Albert D. Cuellar is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A & M University with a degree in Bioengineering, then went on to medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his Internship in General Surgery and his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at UTMB. He also did a Preceptorship and Fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction at Presbyterian Hospital/Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Hip and Knee Replacement Specialty
Dr. Cuellar’s interest in bioengineering is what led him to the practice of orthopaedics. “Ever since college I have been interested in applying engineering knowledge and skills such as mechanics, materials and software development to the science and art of medicine,” says Dr. Cuellar. “Orthopaedics combines these skill sets, especially as they apply to hip and knee replacement surgery.”
At the beginning, Dr. Cuellar’s practice covered a wide range of orthopaedic problems, involving upper and lower extremity trauma, degenerative diseases, sports medicine and pediatric musculoskeletal issues. Also, from the onset, he started focusing on his subspecialty area as a hip and knee surgeon. Over the years Dr. Cuellar’s practice has matured into a full joint reconstructive practice.
Currently, Dr. Cuellar performs many kinds of hip and knee reconstructive procedures. He has expertise in primary, complex and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. He has done thousands of procedures and has vast experience in the field of adult joint reconstructive surgery. Dr. Cuellar states, “I take care of people who have issues that affect their quality of life. I consider myself to have a Wellness Orthopaedic Practice.” He continues, “it is truly satisfying to give people a new lease on life.”
Dr. Cuellar, has participated in multiple medical device and software development projects. He has worked with world-class companies helping to bring important implants and devices to market. He has co-founded a technology company that concentrates on solving global healthcare problems with the goal of making medicine more accessible, less expensive and easier to navigate. These types of projects have increased Dr. Cuellar’s understanding of the industry and how to solve some of the most complex healthcare problems we face today.
