Tips on Looking After Yourself
The situation may be overwhelming, but coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger. Taking conscious steps to care for yourself physically and mentally is important. Remember, we are all in this together.
Take a break from the news
Information overload can be upsetting. While it’s important to stay up-to-date with major announcements from your city or county officials, too much chatter can wear you down. Make an effort to shut off your screens once in a while.
Take care of your body
Meditate, eat well-balanced meals, take deep breaths. Aside from staying safe, stay healthy. As long as you maintain social distancing and follow any local regulations regarding public spaces, getting outside for a walk (take your dog, too!) can be a great way to reduce stress.
Make time to unwind
Use a few minutes of your day to do something you enjoy. Get creative and engage in a hobby or craft. Read a book. Listen to music that helps you stay calm.
Connect with others
Talk to people you trust about your concerns and how you’re feeling. Talking about and acknowledging how you feel helps you process what’s going on around you. Take advantage of free visual meeting platforms so you can SEE the people you love. Chances are, they need to see you as much as you need to see them.
