Herniated Disc Specialists
At KSF Orthopaedic, we have a team of award-winning, Board Certified orthopaedic physicians committed to excellence in orthopaedic spine care, treating spine, neck and back injuries. One of the common spine and back injuries is known as a herniated disk, which is a source of pain in the neck, lower back, arms, or legs. When people say they have a “slipped” or “ruptured” disc in their neck or lower back, what they are actually describing is a herniated disc.
About Spinal Discs
Discs are soft, rubbery pads between the vertebrae, which make up the spinal column. Discs allow the back the bend and flex and also act as shock absorbers. When one of these discs is slipped or herniated, pain and symptoms can often occur in the lower back or even the neck. When herniated, the disc is being pushed back towards the spinal canal, putting pressure on the spinal nerves. These nerves are very sensitive to even small amounts of pressure.
Often herniated disks can be treated without surgery after diagnosis from a KSF orthopaedic physician. In severe cases, surgical treatment may be suggested. KSF offers a wide range of spine and neck services, including herniated disc treatment in both of our North Houston locations. Learn more about herniated discs here.
